MANTECA, San Joaquin County — October 23, 2026. More than 300 pieces of student artwork were entered into a recycling-themed contest organized by Manteca’s Waste Management Division, according to an October 20 city announcement. Families and other community members can help select the winners, with online voting scheduled to close November 5, 2026.
How the contest works
The city says the entries came from pupils in kindergarten through eighth grade. Twelve winning artists are expected to be recognized at a City Council meeting. Their artwork is slated to appear in a 2027 city calendar and on a city garbage truck. These are the published contest plans, not a claim that winners have already been chosen.
Where to vote
The city links to its voting form from the official contest announcement. Use the municipal page rather than an unfamiliar lookalike site. City officials should clarify whether people can cast one ballot or several, any residency requirements and the process for deciding the final twelve if those terms are not shown on the form.
What makes this local news?
Waste sorting and litter prevention can seem like routine services, but putting young residents’ work on municipal equipment gives public visibility to the people affected by those services. The use of a city vehicle also makes the winning artwork part of everyday public space. Parents and teachers may want to know when winning designs will be displayed and whether the city will publish an online gallery.
Separately, Manteca’s official October city calendar lists community events and a free-fare fixed-route transit period. That program is distinct from the art contest; the announcement does not promise free bus fares after October 31.
